Louder than War Album Review - They kick things off with recent single b-side Shake It, riding a great blues-lined groove with menace as singer/drummer Letty Wells rises forth like a true bedevilled garage preacheress, and what a line to start off with given today’s maladies. “We’ve got enough in the metre to keep the lights on all day.” she spouts, like someone being gifted a modern-day touch of Midas to simply survive the shitstorm raining down on us at the behest, and gusto, of our so-called leaders. There’s an air of resistance in the way they push their driving grooves to the fore, pinned by Julian Wells’ fantastic blues-drenched guitar work.

The way they bring together those complementing styles immediately aligns them with some great company as they manage, especially on songs like Your Love, to recall The Cramps, The Detroit Cobras, early-Black Keys and Wanda Jackson all in one. Throw in some Gories, Stray Cats and Bo Diddley and it’s a pure delight to hear, one you can be sure will cause riots in the venues.
